Solar is Not an Infant Industry (Part I–Pre-Twentieth Century)

Via-Master Resource

by Robert Bradley Jr.

...Solar electricity has a long history, not unlike its cousin windpower. The infant industry argument does not apply, and solar’s diluteness and intermittency suggest that this off-grid starter energy will not be an on-grid resource this century if not far beyond....

America’s Coming Energy Independence

...Thanks to technological developments such as the exploitation of oil shale, the U.S. has become the fastest growing oil producer in the world and is likely to remain that way for a decade or more. Already we produce almost as much oil as Saudi Arabia; soon we will surpass it. Already we have become a net petroleum-exporting country for the first time since 1949; in the future we have the potential to export far more, or to lessen even more our already declining dependence on oil imports..

Well, What Do You Know: Obama to Visit Keystone Pipeline Project

Via-Michelle Malkin

By Doug Powers

...President Obama always says there’s “no silver bullet” for gas prices, but he’s going to go pan for some in Oklahoma anyway just in case.

According to a fairly recent Pew Research poll, 66% of Americans who have heard about the Keystone XL pipeline say the project should be approved (some of those who disagree are pictured above), and the national average of a gallon of gas is pushing $4.

These factors mean that the president who as a candidate vowed to rid America of the tyranny of oil will be morphing into JR Ewing right before our eyes for the foreseeable future. The transformation picks up speed on Thursday:....

The president has boasted that domestic oil production has risen since he took office in 2009 but fails to mention that operations on private lands are responsible for the increase. The amount of petroleum extracted from federal lands - under White House jurisdiction - actually fell 13 percent in 2011, according to the Institute for Energy Research. Tumbling in tandem is oil yield from the Gulf of Mexico, dropping from a third of the nation’s total to a quarter since Mr. Obama clamped down on offshore drilling following the 2010 BP oil spill. His overall approval rating likewise has skidded 9 points in the past month to a dismal 41 percent, according to a recent New York Times/CBS News survey.

Mr. Obama has taken to charging that his GOP presidential challengers act as if they can wave “a magic wand” and provide an endless supply of cheap gas. Meanwhile, he has conjured some magic of his own, pressuring Saudi Arabia to sell the United States more petroleum, and the kingdom has responded by boosting shipments by 25 percent since the beginning of the year. Increased supply is meant to lower gas prices by easing oil-market jitters over potential disruptions arising from Iran’s nuclear program. So far, it hasn’t worked.

Barack Obama, Oil Prices and Reality

Via-Townhall

by Derek Hunter

...When he was running for president, then-Sen. Obama basically told people President George W. Bush owned Exxon/Mobil and Vice-President Dick Cheney’s pacemaker was a secret implant from Halliburton that contained a hidden valve to control the world’s oil supply. Now that prices have gone through the roof and he needs to hide, the president presents himself as a helpless observer at the mercy of evil oil speculators.

What If Oil and Natural Gas Are Renewable Resources?

Via-American Thinker

By Greg Lewis

...The evidence is mounting that not only do we have more than a century's worth of recoverable oil in the United States alone (even if there is a limit to the earth's oil supply), but that we also actually have a limitless supply of Texas tea because oil is in fact a renewable resource that is being constantly created deep under the earth's surface and which rises upward, where microscopic organisms that thrive in the intense pressure and heat miles below us interact with and alter it.

In other words, we have an unending supply of oil, some of which is constantly migrating upward from the depths at which it is created to refill existing oil deposits, and much more of which remains far below the surface. This oil can be recovered using existing technology.
